Till 1 September 2024 Musea Brugge presents the most urgent art exhibition of the moment: Rebel Garden. What is man’s impact on nature, and how does it affect our environment? The ambitious expo breaks out of traditional museum walls and occupies no fewer than three museum sites: Groeninge Museum, Gruuthuse Museum and Museum Sint-Janshospitaal. Old and contemporary art take a close look at the tumultuous relationship between man and nature and highlight the painful wound that is climate crisis. Musea Brugge’s latest expo is a must-see exhibition that is part of Triennial Bruges

Till March 30, 2023, you can see portraits and busts from the provincial art collection at the Provincial House, Koningin Elisabethlei 22, 2018 Antwerpen

Don’t miss the cabinet” 2019 that stands on the ground floor, a installation for which an old mine cabinet was transformed into a cabinet, containing the old burnt files of the Antwerp Child Abuse Trust Center. The cabinet - which has become a symbol of an unsafe home, a prison - together with all these objects and sculptures form a whole. The work "Cabinet/portrait SI024G" is like a silent voice for the child abuse that often takes place indoors, hidden from the view of the outside world.

STILLE LEVENS

For the expo 'Stille levens', artist Koen Broucke artistically examines the many invisible and unprecedented collections in a city like Ostend, especially of beachcombers.

Broucke went in search of the stories and lives behind these bizarre and hybrid collections. The joy with which a child collects shells or the sadness at the loss of a beloved toy or a wedding ring in the sand: the underlying emotions are contained in these objects.

As curator of the exhibition, Koen Broucke was inspired by the work 'Still life with shells, bottle of laudanum and pillbox' by Léon Spilliaert. He invited more than 40 artists to give a visual response to it. Growth and decline of collections is the thread running through the expo. The result was on show at the Venetiaanse Gaanderijen from 18 February to 21 May 2023.

THE CLOWN SPIRIT - Traveling Exhibition

From a playful imagination, a family history related to the circus, and close connections with contemporary artists, the desire erupted to bring the clown and the artist together in ‘The Clown Spirit’.

Many artists have at least some affinity with the existence of the clown. The melancholic artist, the serious clown, the comical artist, the tragic clown, the idiotic artist, the subversive clown, the comforting artist, … They all have the gift to transcend life. To make their fellow humans see, feel, or think differently. The clown/artist gives tragic life a comical face, and vice versa.

The artist/clown is a clone and a canvas of various symbols. In their own extremes, the artist/clown is both modest and elated. That contradiction forms the energy flowing through ‘The Clown Spirit’.
